"The whole idea of spirituality is to revive in us that which is sleeping in us, the true inner being - the Self."

What is Sahaj Marg?
Sahaj Marg, translated 'Natural Path', is a raja yoga system of spiritual developement based on a heart=centeredmeditation.  The practice is founded on the principle that God is all-pervasive, and therefore pervades the heart of each and every person.  The founders of Sahaj Marg understood that 'we meditate on that which we want to become'.  Our practice helps us become one with the divine within us - which is the goal of Sahaj Marg.

"What is unique about Sahaj Marg?
Transmission: Defined as the use of divine energy (pranahuti) for the transformation of a human being.  Pranahuti - from prana (life) and ahuti (offering) - is the offering or transmission of the subtlest current directed to the heart of the practicant.

Cleaning:  According to Sahaj Marg everything we do and think leaves impressions (samskaras) on our minds and hearts.  Over the course of a lifetime these impressions build up and deepen into tendencies which condition our behaviour and prevent us from realising our potential.  In Sahaj Mart it is recognised that if the impressions are not removed, they remain as seeds which can develop when the appropriate environment is created.  Sahaj Marg offers a very specific technique, referred to as 'cleaning' to remove these tendencies and prepare the participant to receive transmission.

Starting the Practice
Sahaj Mrg is offeredto people over 18 years of age and is free of charge.  The only qualification is a genuine and abiding interest in spiritual growth and the willingness to participate.

The spiritual teacher or guru
"Spirituality is like climbing a mountain.  In the beginning it is very easy.  But, if you are really trying for the high ranges, to reach the peak very soon there is hardly a way.  You have to find it.  That is why mountaineers have guides.  The guide knows the way, though there is no visible way."

The present teacher or Master of Sahaj Marg meditation is ShriParthasarathi Rajagopalachari.  He resides in Chennai, India and works dilligently andlovingly to serve humanity by helping sincereseekers to reach their spiritual goal.

Prefects:
Prefects are spiritual trainers who have been prepared and permitted by the Master to introduce people to the Sahaj Marg system, and to conduct group and individual meditation sittings.  They are volunteers and do not receive payment.

The Daily Practice
Morning Meditation: Meditation on the divine light in the heart.
Evening Cleaning:  Removes impressions accummulated during the day.
Night-Time Prayer: A short prayer-meditation at bedtime to reinforce our spiritual goal and connection with our divine essence as we sleep.

Individual and Group Meditation: Every week abhyasis gather for group meditation (satsangh).  It is recommended to have an individual sitting with a prefect for the purpose of deeper cleaning at least once every two weeks.

To Start the practice
A minimum of three introductory meditation sittings with a prefect, over the course of three consecutive days, are required.  Each sitting lasts approximately 30 - 45 minutes.
