Turmeric Lemonade

Print Friendly

Description:
This orange-colored root is an anti-inflamatory, helps Alzheimer’s, and lowers bad cholesterol. Turmeric is used for arthritis, heartburn (dyspepsia), stomach pain, diarrhea, intestinal gas, stomach bloating, loss of appetite, jaundice, liver problems and gallbladder disorders.

Turmeric is also used for headaches, bronchitis, colds, lung infections, fibromyalgia, leprosy, fever, menstrual problems, and cancer. Other uses include depression, water retention, worms, and kidney problems. And, although it stains everything, including your teeth, temporarily, it really works to clean your teeth, whitening them, without damaging your teeth like peroxide does.

Turmeric is pretty much a super root with super powers. It’s packed full of antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, is great for brain health, lowers risk of heart disease, and has been found to lift depression. In this clinical trial, on major depressive disorder (MDD), Curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) equaled the effects of the prescription drug fluoxetine (the generic form of Prozac), without the adverse effects!

Ingredients:
4 cups cold filtered or sparkling water

2 tablespoons freshly grated or powdered turmeric (peel it by holding a spoon against the root, convex side towards you, and lightly brush the spoon against it- the skin should come off easily)

4 tablespoons 100% maple syrup, honey or Stevia if you are avoiding sugar

Juice of 1 1/2 lemons or limes

Optional: add the juice of 1 blood orange
Optional" Add some apple cider vinger

Directions:
Combine all ingredients into a small pitcher, stir and serve with a slice of lemon as a garnish

Servings: 4

Wellness Tip
Fast Food
Did you know that a plain fast food hamburger may be a better nutritional bet than a chicken sandwich? One plain patty, with bun but no cheese, provides about 260 calories and 9 grams of fat. A fried chicken sandwich has almost 500 calories and 23 grams of fat! When dining out, consider opting for plain items, such as burgers. Hold the cheese and sauces, or opt for grilled (not fried) chicken sandwiches with mustard instead of a rich sauce or mayo.

Chicken Soup for the Cold
Legend has it that chicken soup was first prescribed by a twelfth century doctor named Moses Maimonides as a cold and asthma remedy. Now we have the technology and believe it or not, laboratory tests have concluded that chicken soup actually can help fight a cold.

Recipe
Spinach & Cilantro Pesto
Category: Raw Foods
Description: One leafy, green vegetable that I cannot seem to get enough of is Spinach. Spinach is so versatile, from spinach salads, to spinach smoothies, to spinach soup. You name the recipe and spinach can be added to it. And talk about nutritious…remember Popeye?? The health benefits of spinach are numerous. It sits at the top of many super food lists. Spinach is loaded with calcium, folic acid, vitamin K and Iron. It is also rich in Vitamin C, fiber and caretenoids. Add its lutein and bioflavanoids and spinach becomes a nutritional powerhouse.
The combination of flavours in the following recipe are simply divine. I’ve cheated a bit and toasted the cashews, but it’s worth it for the enhanced flavour.
