Publisher's Message ~ November 2012 Issue

Greetings!

Allison and MariaIn October we were at the Kelowna Wellness Fair and had a fun weekend. Thank you to all of the people who came by our booth to say how much they enjoy reading the eMagazine each month. Many people expressed how pleased they were to have this community network in the Okanagan for all these years; and how they use the event calendar all the time to find local workshops and events; and the wellness directory to locate practitioners. Other people mentioned how they love the articles and recipes. All your support and kind words are greatly appreciated.

Ok In Health presents... We were very excited to bring Allison Scott to the Okanagan (and she also travelled to Washington & Vancouver). We enjoyed a fun 2 day workshop and learned how to connect with the 12th Dimension...at this level we have access to Beings whom we would not be able to access from your 3rd Dimensional space. It was a very exciting and informative two days. The Free introductory talk on Friday night was a packed house. Thank you to everyone who turned up for the talk. The workshop was also full, so we plan to bring Allison back next spring.

Broccoli and Sun-dried Tomato Frittata

Description:
Eggs! They are one of the more inexpensive and impressive forms of protein, containing 9 essential amino acids. There are obvious parts of an egg: the white and the yolk. The yolk is the egg's major source of vitamins and minerals, but also fat and cholesterol. However, the yolk also contains an enzyme that helps us digest cholesterol. The white is made mainly of protein. To get the health benefits without excessive fat, eat one yolk per thee whites! *Healthy Fact!*Naturally raised free run chickens have dark rich yellow yolks whereas the typical factory farmed egg is pale in colour. The darker the yolk, the more vitamin dense it is. This is because of the high quality suitable food the chickens eat and the fact that they are living in a cruelty free environment.

Cous Cous Salad with Tomatoes and Beans

Description:
Cous Cous - So good they had to name it twice. Couscous (pronounced Koose-Koose. Due to its quick preparation and health benefits, the popularity of this dish is quickly growing in other parts of the world as well. Including couscous in your diet provides several health benefits. A 1 cup serving of couscous provides 43 mcg of selenium, or 61% of the 70 mcg daily value. This is a trace mineral that the body needs in small quantities, acting as an antioxidant and protecting healthy cells from the mutating effects of toxins that change the DNA and structural composition, leading to disease and premature aging. The potassium in couscous provides important functions, such as regulating blood pressure and the heartbeat. Potassium helps control fluid balance, an important factor in blood pressure regulation. It also assists with muscle contractions, and because the heart is a muscle, it requires potassium to prevent arrythmias, or irregularities of the heartbeat. A 1 cup serving of couscous provides 91mg of potassium, or 39% of the 3,500 mg the FDA recommends to get daily.

Salty Granola Bars with Lentils Flour

Description:

Very rich in vitamin B9 (folate)which is essential for pregnant women and ensures proper fetal development.Reduce the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus. Necessary for the production of new cells and genetic material. Lentils flour is also a High Source of Fiber which is beneficial for intestinal health. Helps prevent constipation. Reduces the risk of colorectal cancer. Reduces the levels of bad cholesterol. Contributes to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Facilitates the control of glucose (blood sugar). Reduces the risks associated with diabetes when consumed regularly. Provides a sensation of fullness more quickly and thus facilitates achieving or maintaining a healthy weight. Dear OK In Health, I have a small crack down the middle of the tongue? What could cause this and how do I get rid of it?

This could mean you have a weak stomach and poor digestion. You'll probably also be suffering from fatigue as a result of not getting all your nutrients.

Solutions:

Try eating more easily digested foods such as soups and stews.
Eat your food slowly and chew mindfully.
Avoid drinks at mealtimes.
Drink enough water. Not enough fluid is a primary cause of constipation.
Eat plenty of dietary fibre.
Enzyme supplements are believed to support the body's own digestive enzymes to aid digestion and help with other disorders stemming from poor digestion.
Get some good gut bacterial. Supplements containing acidophilus and bifidobacteria can be found in health food stores.
Food combine for improved digestion.
Eat millet and quinoa grains.
If it does not heal up, please see your doctor, dentist, or naturopath

Cathy’s Creations is a compilation of 20 years of experience baking for her gluten-free family. This is the one gluten-free cookbook with every recipe you will ever need. Guaranteed to be good bread, cookies, muffins and cakes. Cathy starts out with easy to follow basics and when you are ready, provides you with all the tips you’ll need to master dessert cakes, donuts and cream puffs. Your family and friends won’t believe that they are eating gluten free! Colour photos throughout will inspire you to rise to new heights!

Originally three separate books, Cathy’s Creations have been rolled into one all-inclusive resource. Her four unique flour mixes offer a range of tastes and textures. Their protein and fibre content provide both nutrition and flavor! In fact, her gluten-free flour combinations are the closest thing to wheat flour that many gluten-free bakers have found. Cathy is committed to supporting your baking efforts, she is just an email away if you have questions about a particular recipe or gluten-free baking in general. Review of 'Living the Life You Desire' Workshop Oct. 27 & 28, 2012:

I recently attended "Live the Life you Desire" with Lyndsay Blais. It was a very insightful weekend and though sometimes the content was difficult, Lyndsay was very respectful and we had fun. I decided to try the workshop as I have been having problems communicating with a coworker and was unhappy with my work/life balance. We did some activities that guided me through my feelings about my coworker and it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. And she helped me to realize that my ideas about how "life should be" were what was stopping me from enjoying everyday, I was making myself unhappy. And I feel that I have come away from the workshop with the tools I need to work my way through any future challenges. Her ideas are simple, but have had a huge effect on my outlook on life. Work on Monday morning was fun again!

15 Angel Signs and How to Spot Them by OK In Health's Articles
Want to know if you have been visited by an Angel or a passed loved one? If so it might be time to take a closer look at the signs around you. Angels and those we have lost, particularly ones we have loved dearly, will often leave signs to reassure, comfort and guide those they've visited. Whether it's to remind us of their presence, help us through a difficult time or merely to let us know they're there if we need them, these beings will always find a way of alerting us to their presence – often in very unusual and unexpected ways. If you'd like to find out whether you've been visited by an angel or deceased loved one, why they've come to you and interpret any secret messages they might have left you, the following overview of some of the most common signs and their meanings should answer some of your questions...

Acid Reflux and Stomach Problems by Caroline Sutherland
Have you been having stomach problems lately? Maybe your doctor has suggested medication for acid reflux and although it seems to be helping, you may be reluctant to be on medication for something that you feel should have a simple explanation and solution. Here are some useful strategies....
Archangel Michael's Leyline and Scared Sites in Ireland by Maria Carr
The Saint Michael Leyline is largely intact because of the work of the Druids. This Leyline runs across Ireland for several hundred miles, intersecting with various sacred sites that have been dedicated to Saint Michael. One of the original amplification points of this ley is a 230 metre rock, called Skellig Michael, which stands in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Ireland. For 600 years since the seventh century AD, it was a centre of monastic life for Christian monks who lived in a monastery that still exists...
Ask Ann – what are you feelings about Rope Halters? by Ann Turner
As with anything, there are pros and cons on both sides and there are reasons and conditions which apply to both. I personally do not use these kinds of rope halters for anything but lunging a boisterous horse, and even then I prefer a proper leather cavesson with the ring on the nose, as this gives you a better ability to bend the horse towards you without pulling. Pros for rope halters....
Conscious Eating – You don’t have to say “No” by Lisa Kilgour

Eating for Two by Alexis Costello
Maybe it has something to do with the cold, maybe it is due to an economic recession that has people staying in more often, but it seems like everywhere I look I see pregnant women. Nutritional information geared towards pregnancy can be confusing, and good nutrition is vital during pregnancy as the health of the mother does much to determine the health of the baby.

Feed Your Cat as Nature Intended by Dr. Moira Drosdovech
Although commonly accepted that commercial dry food is an adequate 100% complete balanced diet for cats, I have many concerns with this line of thinking. For one, it is made with a great deal of grain or grain by-products, in most cases well over 40%.
Gifts for the Gluten Free on Your List by Cathy Lauer
It is the beginning of November and you probably don’t want to think about Christmas yet. However, you may have people on your list who are on a gluten free diet and the usual box of chocolates, Christmas cookies or cake, or restaurant gift card is not something you can give them this year. So what can you give to someone on a gluten free diet that they will really use and enjoy?
Handling Aggressive and Challenging Behavior by Maggie Reigh
By releasing the emotion that drives the behavior we free up to change the behavior. Sometimes it is much more difficult to see and deal with our own emotions that are creating problems because most of us have become experts at hiding uncomfortable emotions deep inside.
Hello Boomers by Carole Fawcett
Baby Boomers…..kind of a catchy generational name don’t you think? Of course we know it refers to the post World War II baby boom. Boomers are those of us born in the years 1946 to 1964 and are considered to be the “me” generation. We lived through the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Walk on the Moon, Woodstock, and the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. We introduced the concept of “free love”, were the first generation to be raised with...
Incarnated Angels and Starpeople by Doreen Virtue
People have come from all over the universe to live upon earth. In my private psychic counseling practice, I've been able to get to know many people whose origins are not of this earth. I've learned that there are many incarnated extraterrestrials (ETs), angels, and walk-ins upon the planet right now. The first time I worked with an incarnated ET—what I call a "star person," I was startled. She defied all of my stereotypes about extraterrestrials. She looked a lot like an ordinary person (although there are some...
It’s in Our Nature to be Healthy ~ Preventative Health by David Suzuki
One of the joys of being a grandparent is getting to see the world again through the eyes of a child. Recently, I found my three-year-old grandson picking at a scab on his arm. It brought a flood of memories because I used to do the same thing. It was amazing to watch the blood from an injury dry and, over days, form a scab. Before that scab was ready to fall off, I would pick at it to see what was underneath, and, wonder of wonders – it was fresh, pink skin! We must pay greater attention to keeping our bodies and minds healthy and able to heal...
Miso, Tamari, Kim chee, Kefir, Kombucha, and Rejuvelac! by Sandra Butler
Miso, Tamari, Kim chee, Kefir, Kombucha, and Rejuvelac! For a moment I felt as though I was beginning to speak a foreign language. Did you think I was? Add the following words to the above – apple cider vinegar, yogurt, wine and sauerkraut. Are you beginning to get the picture? Yes, all of the above words belong to the family of fermented or cultured products...
Movember is Prostate Health Awareness by OK In Health's Articles
Prostate cancer is the most pervasive form of cancer in Canadian men. The disease occurs when normal cells in the prostate lose control of growth and division and being to multiply rapidly. Cancerous prostate cells are invasive, meaning they are able to spread to other areas in the body outside of the prostate. Not all prostate cancer grows quickly and many men will live with prostate cancer for a number of years without it having an impact on their lives or overall health.

Strong Core and Quads! by Sonya Patrick
Now that autumn and all it holds is upon us, we may find that we do not have as much time to go the gym or get outside and exercise as often as we should. True, we have been in revolutionary times for decades, even centuries, yet this next few years especially presents a very sharp turn in a narrow channel boasting a significant descent. Cosmopolitan cities and even countries is the emerging norm. Humanity is being pushed to acknowledge and embrace the fact that the lines of division which once seemed so clear are dissolving at a steady rate. Congratulation to your achievement ( 1st page on search engines), well deserved! Klaus Ferlow from Vancouver

Love your health & wellness network & eMagazine. I feel it is important to continue to support the networks that have been supporting us for years. Your eMagazine was the first on-line eMagazine we had. Other Magazine such has Health Action network, Common Ground and Issues Magazine have also been around for decades supporting the wellness communities. You saw the vision of the internet at the grass root level and made it happen. You have continue to offer low cost or free promotions of local practitioners, teachers, healers and local wellness businesses. We are so blessed to have such a positive network that puts community first. Now we see tons of websites and magazines starting up. I want to write to say as I will continue to welcome new websites and magazines but for you to know my loyalty is with the OK In Health eMagazine. Keep up the good work and here is to another 10 years of community networking and support and the eMagazine.
Karl, Lake Country

Movember is Prostate Health Awareness
Prostate cancer is the most pervasive form of cancer in Canadian men. The disease occurs when normal cells in the prostate lose control of growth and division and being to multiply rapidly. Cancerous prostate cells are invasive, meaning they are able to spread to other areas in the body outside of the prostate. Not all prostate cancer grows quickly and many men will live with prostate cancer for a number of years without it having an impact on their lives or overall health.
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. Read More
