Publisher's Message ~ May 2019 Issue
Happy Bealtaine Day on May 6th
Mark Your Calendar for June 21st Summer Solstice

If you ask the weather service, the summer months are June, July and August. But according to the Irish calendar, summer begins on May 1st and ends on July 31st. This relates specifically to the ancient Celtic Festivals when the 1st of May or Mayday began with the Irish celebration of Bealtaine, which officially heralded the beginning of summertime.

Directly translated Bealtaine means "mouth of fire" coming from the Irish Gaelic Béal (mouth) and tine (fire) referring to the Sun as its light and heat rise further and further towards the Summer Solstice. The first part of name is also to the old Irish God ‘Bel’ and the second part is the Goddess Aine.

In 2019, the exact time of the cross quarter day between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice is on Monday May 6th at 6.56am. In 2020, it is on May 9th. But many people celebrate on May 1st, similar to the Celtic Festivals of Imbolg on February 1st and Lughnasadh on August 1st.

In 2020, Maria O’Farrell Carr will be bringing a group on an Ireland Sacred Tour and we will be attending the Bealtaine Fire Festival on the Hill of Uisneach, which is the womb of Ireland, where she births the leylines of Ireland and the world. It is a magical place. I can’t wait to go with our Tour group next year.
Contact us if you would like to join us.

Here is British Columbia, we are getting ready for our 2019 Okanagan’s Largest Summer Solstice. Free admission. Bring your drums and rattles as we are planning the largest drum music jam session in the Okanagan on the evening. Event starts 6.30pm. To RSVP go to  Come join the Fun!

Bealtaine Green Man Cake

Make this cake to celebrate Bealtaine and the spirit of the forest. The Green Man is an archetype often represented at Beltaine. He is the spirit of the forest, the lusty fertility god of the woodlands. He is Puck, Jack in the Green, Robin of the Woods. For your Beltane celebrations, why not put together a cake honouring him? This spice cake is easy to bake, and uses a delicious cream cheese frosting and rolled fondant to create the image of the Green Man himself. This recipe makes either one 9 x 13" sheet cake or 2 8-inch rounds.

Spinach Quiche with Sweet Potato Crust - Gluten Free

Sweet Potato Crust is a Must Sweet potatoes might actually be my favorite ingredient. They’re incredibly versatile, naturally sweet, loaded with nutrients and fiber, and low in calories. Really, what’s not to love? Whether perfectly roasted, made into gnocchi, whisked into a pancake batter, or sliced into chips, this humble ingredient continues to reach beyond my expectations with each dish I try. Well, once again, it did more than impressed me, it wowed me The whipped egg and milk combination sunk down perfectly in between the slices of sweet potatoes to create a perfectly tender crust (that holds together) on the bottom with a chip-like consistency around the edges. The filling is from our Spinach and Feta Quiche.

Is there an effective way to prevent or get rid of athlete's foot? Particularly symptoms like itching, burning and skin irritation/peeling? Thanks! From Adam, Surrey, BC

Athlete's foot, also called tinea pedis, develops in the moist areas between the toes and sometimes on other parts of the foot, as well. Please consult your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. He or she may suggest using an over-the-counter anti-fungal ointment, lotion, powder, or a prescribed oral medication (depending upon the severity of your case). Though some natural healing practitioners suggest using tea tree oil for treatment of athlete's foot, this oil has not been proven to cure all cases.

The tips below may prove useful for preventing athlete's foot and easing discomfort of symptoms:

•Wash your feet with mild disinfectant soap and hot water twice daily. Dry feet with a cotton towel.
•Keep your feet dry, especially the spaces between your toes.
•Wear cotton or wool socks, which draw moisture away from your feet. Avoid wearing nylon or synthetic socks.
•Change your socks twice daily and wash them in hot water with a disinfectant.
•Wear waterproof sandals in communal showers, pools, fitness centers and other public areas.
•Don't share shoes, socks, or nail clippers.
•Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a vitamin E cream and apply to feet before you go to bed. This will help to reduce itching and burning.

Addictions by Monika Muranyi
Many of us do not understand why or how individuals become addicted to certain substances. There is often a mistaken assumption that the addictive habit can be overcome with sheer willpower. The reality is that many people do not have control over their addiction, and even if they want to stop, they can’t! The spiritual reason, according to Kryon (through Lee Carroll), is a lack of self-worth.

May 2019

Tip of the Month:
May 2019 will likely prove to be a testing and dramatic month for many. This will include a fair amount of gear shifting, turns and new directions and approaches. On the high side, it will give rise to great success for some. Yet, now everyone can win the game, unless the attitude that playing at all is winning. Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto retrograde as of April add complexity to the plot activating revolutionary attitudes and actions. A rich exchange of beliefs and perceptions woven with emotional conviction can be heard and felt everywhere.

Aries (Mar 21- Apr 19)
Spring is in full swing and your energy levels are running high. Implementing ideas and plans thathave been percolating for months is keeping you busy. Practical directions and results are what matter most now.
