Carob Chip Protein Cookies

Description:
This recipe is so simple to make. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl with your hands, form into balls, and place on a cookie sheet and in 8 minutes you have some healthy cookies to eat or for kids lunches. What Are the Benefits of Carob Chips? Many people enjoy chocolate chip cookies or other desserts containing chocolate chips, but using carob chips instead offers a variety of benefits. While you will not get chocolate flavor from carob chips, they do impart a sweet taste -- allowing you to satisfy your sweet tooth while getting more nutritional value and less cholesterol. Carob provides fiber and your body needs 25 to 38 g of fiber each day to keep your bowels and digestion functioning at an optimal level. Consume a 2-tbsp. serving of carob chips, and you take in 2 g of fiber. This may not seem like much; however, in comparison to 2 tbsp. of chocolate chips, which contains no fiber, it is a good option for adding fiber to your diet. If you use carob chips in baked goods, you can increase your fiber by choosing whole grain flours and high-fiber nuts for your recipe. it also has no Cholesterol. Your physician may warn you off foods such as baked goods in an effort to decrease your cholesterol intake if you have high blood cholesterol levels. Too much cholesterol in your blood may build up and block blood flow, increasing your risk of a heart attack. Limit your consumption to 300 mg per day. You can slightly lower the amount of cholesterol in the foods you make by opting to use carob chips -- a serving of this sweet chip contains no cholesterol. If you use regular chocolate chips, you take in 3.5 mg of cholesterol per 2-tbsp. serving. It also decreases your caffeine Intake. Chocolate chips naturally contain 18 mg of caffeine per 2-tbsp. serving, far less than a cup of coffee ; however, if you are a person with caffeine sensitivities, carob chips are a smarter choice as they contain no caffeine. Carob chips are a good choice to supplement your calcium intake. A 2-tbsp. serving of this food provides you with 2 percent of the daily recommended intake of calcium if you adhere to a 2,000 calorie diet. The calcium you get from carob chips promotes bone strength and density. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, calcium may also ease symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and play a role in lowering your risk of hypertension.

QUESTION:

Hello - I'm really confused about calories and fat. I watch what I eat but don't really know what to look for! Should I be counting calories or fat grams? Or percentages of calories from fat? What are calories and fat anyways???????? PLEASE HELP!

ANSWER:
Dear Reader,
A calorie is the standard unit for measuring energy released from energy-yielding nutrients, such as fat, protein, and carbohydrate. Fat is an essential nutrient that helps the body transport and absorb fat-soluble vitamins (e.g., A, D, E, and K), among other functions. Whereas proteins and carbohydrates have only four calories of energy per gram, fat has nine. Food labels are now Federally standardized to help make it easier for the consumer to know what's in a particular food. You can calculate the percentage of calories from fat by looking at the column marked "Percent Daily Value" for total fat and simply add up these percentages. It's recommended that fat make up no more than 30 percent of your daily diet (meaning less than or equal to 30 percent of total calories a day from fat).

Although it is important to watch both calories and fat grams, your focus needs to be on the total number of calories consumed, which often seems to be forgotten. With the introduction of low-fat and fat-free versions of many common foods, you'd expect people to lose weight. Instead, many are either staying at the same weight or even gaining weight. Sometimes you can eat more of these foods than their full-fat versions for the same number of calories. However sometimes low-fat foods contain more sugar than their full-fat cousins, and hence as many calories per serving. Ultimately, if you eat more calories than your body expends, regardless of whether these calories come from fat, protein, or carbohydrates, you will gain weight. Unused energy is converted and stored as excess body fat.

The amount of calories a person needs is based on body weight, age, gender and physical activity level. Generally, 1200 to 1400 calories per day is considered low, and anything above 2400 is considered too much. To find out how many calories you should be getting a day, check out the MyPlate website. This USDA-sponsored site will ask you to input your age, gender, weight, height and physical activity level in order to determine what caloric intake will be right for you.

The Heart of the Soul - by Gary Zukav
Book Review - By Sue Chambers, Williams Lake, BC

The Heart of the Soul is a very exciting and interesting book. Gary Zukav explains that the longest journey that we will make in our lives is from our heads to our hearts!
He explains that the journey into the heart is our future and our only way of creating a future. Being a movement toward wholeness, integrity, and compassion. It is the healing each of us longs for, and the healing that each of us must accomplish if we are to move forward into our fullest potential, our authentic power. He explains this.
Authentic power is the alignment of your personality with your soul. Creating authentic power is different from the pursuit of external power. We know how to pursue external power well because we have been pursuing it since the origin of our species. That is why it is very challenging to discover that it no longer leads us where we want to go.
The creation of authentic power is a lifetime endeavor. It requires becoming aware, moment by moment, of what you are feeling with the decisions that you are making. The creation of authentic power confronts you with the most unhealthy parts of yourself - the parts that blame, criticize, judge, resent, envy, and hate others, yourself, and the Universe. These are the parts that must be uncovered, acknowledged, and changed. They are also the parts that most want to change others rather than be changed themselves.
Zukav explains that changing your life does not mean getting a new job, partner or moving away. It means locating within you impulses to make yourself feel worthy by attempting to control others or the circumstances around you, and changing that.
You will choose your intentions consciously. You will be free to say and do what is most appropriate, guided by your compassionate heart and your wisdom. You will live without fear. You will give all that you were born to give and receive all that the Universe offers to you. You will live in harmony with others while remaining true to yourself.
Authentic power is being fully engaged in the present moment. It is being creative without limitation. It is enjoying the company of all life. It is caring and being cared for. It is being aware of everything that you are feeling, all of the time. It is living in Joy!
This is the life that now calls you.
When you locate and nurture the parts of yourself that appreciate all of life, including your own life, you cultivate authentic power. Creating authentic power is a proactive, lifetime endeavor that requires your intention and effort. If you become distracted or get tired, realize that these experiences also are part of the creation of authentic power. It is the experience of fulfillment, no matter what you are doing. It is knowing that the person you are with is the person you are supposed to be with. You have no thoughts of fear. We experience it often when we are with friends, and when we are alone with the

The Spiritual & Financial Freedom Workshop
with Jaden Sterling & Cindy Smith
was held in Calgary last month.

This course is perfect for you if you are really ready to make changes to how you believe and think about money and spirituality. We were asked “What does spiritual & financial freedom mean to you?”. If you answered, living a life of freedom, joy, love and abundance then you are on the right track! For those who are still unsure what it would mean to have spiritual and financial freedom it was a great course and we discover for ourselves what is holding us back and we removed the blockages once and for all!

We also learned how to:

• Get to the truth of our beliefs when it comes to us achieving spiritual & financial freedom.
• Upgraded our unconscious thought pattern about money from lack to plenty.
• Learned how our belief systems can block us from having spiritual and financial freedom
• Work with the Angel of Abundance to release all our fears and to make changes to our life, financially and spiritually.
• Unleashed our inner financial and spiritual dynamo to achieve our hearts desires.
• Balanced our ability to be a giver and a receiver.
• Learned how to receive spiritually and financially so we can truly live a life of freedom.

This course is perfect for you if:

• You are someone who has a special gift to share.
• You lie awake at night and think to yourself, “there has to be more to life than how I’m living”.
• You are really ready to make changes to how you believe and think about money and spirituality.
• You are ready to move to an entirely new level spiritually and financially.

If you said, “Yes that is me!” Then you will love what you learn in a weekend with Jaden Sterling and Cindy Smith.

"Getting rich is one part. Finding your passion; living a balanced life, and being of service to others - Now, that is creating a life of true wealth and freedom."

Here is what a few people said about it……...

" This course has allowed me to become aware of my unconscious blocks I had with finances and spirituality-- mainly finances which in turn has raised my self-esteem. I now have tools to reinforce the huge shift I experienced." Lee

"Amazing course! Gets down to the core and heals completely. I loved and enjoyed
every minute. I look forward to what can be created." Diane M.

"You connect everyone to their soul's purpose and it makes everyone's life a better path. Your love gives everyone joy and we all love you back with gratitude." Louise

The Spiritual & Financial Freedom Workshop with Jaden Sterling & Cindy Smith will be in Penticton, in the Okanagan on Feb. 15th & 16th with a free intro evening on the 15th.
I recommend booking early as this course to be sure to get a place.

Addictions Hold Us Back by Caroline Sutherland
Many people who are ill have obvious patterns of addiction or low self esteem in the equation. Antibiotics Resistance and How Homeopathy Can Help - Part ONE by Ilona Peet, DCH,
You probably share most people’s opinion that antibiotics save people’s lives. After all, previously deadly bacterial infections can now be managed successfully. Can they? The biggest threat to human health today and possibly ‘the end to modern medicine as we know it’ is, according to the World Health Organization, a natural phenomenon the extent of which we are only now beginning to grasp: We’re talking about antibiotics resistance.
Archangel Michael's Leyline and Scared Sites in Ireland by Maria Carr
The Saint Michael Leyline is largely intact because of the work of the Druids. This Leyline runs across Ireland for several hundred miles, intersecting with various sacred sites that have been dedicated to Saint Michael. One of the original amplification points of this ley is a 230 metre rock, called Skellig Michael, which stands in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Ireland. For 600 years since the seventh century AD, it was a centre of monastic life for Christian monks who lived in a monastery that still exists...

Does Your Pet Need the Needle? by Dr. Moira Drosdovech
Many veterinarians in the last decade have begun questioning whether over-vaccination, while not yet validated scientifically, may be causing a good deal of unnecessary chronic illness in our pets. We should only vaccinate to produce adequate immunity and we should only do so once the pet’s guardian is fully informed of the potential risks associated with this potent medical procedure and the risks associated with not vaccinating at all or vaccinating only occasionally.
Eat, Drink, and Support Adrenal Gland Function - Part Two by Marcelle Pick
Eating to support your adrenal glands — small choices can make a difference. First and foremost: timing your meals and snacks. When you eat your meals and snacks can make a big difference. As you can see in the graph, cortisol follows a natural cycle that works with your circadian rhythm. Normally, it begins to rise around 6:00 AM and reaches its highest peak around 8:00 AM. Throughout the day, cortisol gradually and naturally declines — with small upward bumps at meal times — to prepare your body for nighttime rest. That’s why cortisol is normally at its lowest level during the night. Ideally, you want to work with...

Israel, the Dead Sea, and Ancient Nuclear Explosions by Agnes Toews Andrews
The Dead Sea region, a healing place, has a mysterious past when giant gods, the Annunaki, also known in the Holy Bible as the Nephilim, created cities in this region. Agnes writes this month about her visit to the Dead Sea region of Israel. During a meditation there she received a vision of a nuclear explosion. It coincides with her being on a fast at Ramadan, a month of religious observance wherein Muslims fast, pray and study the Quran.
Powerful or Powerless, Which One Are You? by Pamela Shelly
As a young child we often learn early how to behave to be accepted and get our needs and wants met. Instead of learning how to love ourselves, honor and act on our feelings, we were taught how to behave by pleasing our parents to get our perceived needs met.
Procrastination by Sue Chambers
We all procrastinate; we put off things because we do not want to do them or because we have too many other things going on in our lives. Some of us love the rush of a last minute deadline, getting something done in a hurry, but it is probably not a very healthy habit to get into.
Renewable Energy by David Suzuki
Germany gets about 20 per cent of its overall annual electricity from renewable sources, including solar, wind, water, and thermal. A Reuters article reports that “Germany has nearly as much installed solar power generation capacity as the rest of the world combined and gets about four per cent of its overall annual electricity needs from the sun alone. It aims to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent from 1990 levels by 2020.” In a controversial move, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also promised to replace nuclear power with renewables. The plan is proceeding, but it...

For those of you who were unable to attend, or tried to attend but were unable to get in, here is a look at my favourites and not so favourites of the Gluten Free Expo in Vancouver.
The Future of the Role of Alternative Healthcare in the 21st Century by Dylan Smeaton, CBP
Whether the practitioner is a naturopath, herbologist, energy healer, yoga instructor or acupuncturist, the simple fact is the history of most of these skilled professions predates recorded history. Throughout all of human history, way before the Cartesian model of modern medicine, was “alternative” healthcare; which should actually be called: Traditional Healthcare. Since the very inception of human beings settling in villages, were the village shamans that practiced within their local community. So if you stop and reflect upon the bigger picture here, you realize that today’s modern medical industry itself is actually the “alternative” to traditional healthcare...

Time to Help Out Our Innards by David Dixon
There can be too much of a good thing and often this is the case, especially when it comes to chocolate. You can expect to indulge alright, but no sense overdoing it and taxing your liver to a great extent.
Understanding Messages from Spirit by Kerry Palframan, RN
Spirit speaks to us all during the day and all during the night. But the communication is symbolic in nature and not readily understood by many people today. This was not always so, and ancient culture and civilizations taught their communities how to understand this forgotten language of the Universe called symbolism.....
You Snooze, You Win: The Power of Sleep by Dr. Melissa Bradwell
Are you tired of being tired? Have you decided that you’re never going to get another good nights’ sleep ever again? Well, you’re not alone. In times where there often doesn’t feel like there’s enough hours in a day, the area that usually gets affected is our sleep....
Your Destiny and You - 2013 by Teresa Hwang
In Chinese metaphysical studies, the concept of Heaven, Earth and Man are intricately entwined together. We can look at the whole picture by their effects on our Path of Life. We can study the Heaven effect with the Four Pillars of Destiny, the Earth effect with Feng Shui, and the Man effect with Yijing (I Ching). The moment a person is born determines his destiny. The prevailing Qi is...
