Granola with Wheat Germ, Seeds and Blackstrap Molasses

The advantage of making your own healthy homemade granola is that you can avoid some of the hydrogenated fats and corn syrup found in many of the commercial brands. Granola made this way is also a heart-healthy snack food because of the relatively low fat content and the vitamins and minerals supplied by the grains, seeds, nuts and fruits. Oats and other grains are rich in magnesium and other minerals and vitamins which help keep cholesterol low. This recipe I like because of the blackstrap molasses. Blackstrap molasses is a very good source of iron. Particularly for menstruating women, who are more at risk for iron deficiency, boosting iron stores with blackstrap molasses is a good idea--especially because, in comparison to red meat, a well known source of iron, blackstrap molasses provides more iron for less calories and is totally fat-free. Iron is an integral component of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen from the lungs to all body cells, and is also part of key enzyme systems for energy production and metabolism. So, granola can be a quite healthy as part of a diet rich in natural grains and vegetables - and as a welcome treat for when you are working or playing extra hard.

Gluten Free Chickpeas Flour Hummus

Chickpeas also called garbanzo beans are a great source of protein and a healthy addition to your diet. Naturally low in fat, they are also high in dietary fiber and rich in vitamins and minerals. Eating chickpeas on a regular basis can help you lose weight, boost intestinal health and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Some healthy benefits of chickpeas flour: Prevent cardiovascular disease - Reduces bad cholesterol in the blood Great benefits on intestinal flora -Increases good bacteria and Protects against colorectal cancer. Contributes to the effectiveness of the immune system. Helps increase the assimilation of minerals and vitamins Controls type 2 diabetes -Low glycemic index. Excellent source of fiber -Reduces the risk of colon cancer and Controls appetite. Helps control manage your weight. Prevents constipation Excellent source of manganese - This crucial mineral helps the body form connective tissue, bones, blood clotting factors and sex hormones. Not only it plays a role in fat and carbohydrate absorption, it regulates blood sugar and helps normalize brain and nerve system. Source of copper - Copper is important for proper growth, absorption of iron and enzymatic reactions. It maintains the integrity of connective tissues, ageing and produces energy. It also enables normal metabolic process in association with amino acids and vitamins. Source of folic acid - Folic acid assists the production of red blood cells, helps the heart stay healthy and keep the brain young. It is essential is fetus development and it can reduce depression.

Dark Chocolate Zucchini (or summer squash) Cake

Dark chocolate the bitter sweet treat! It's more than wishful thinking - chocolate can be good for you. Studies show that eating chocolate, primarily dark chocolate, may contribute to improved cardiovascular health. Packed with natural antioxidants, dark chocolate and cocoa sit in the same good-for-you category as green tea and blueberries. That's because chocolate comes from cacao beans (or cocoa beans), which grow on the cacao tree and are full of natural plant nutrients. Most of the studies to date highlight dark chocolate's health values because it has the highest percentage of cocoa solids, therefore more antioxidants. *Health Fact! 40g of cocoa powder a day for 4 weeks has been proven to increase HDL (good) cholesterol by 5% while decreasing LDL (bad cholesterol by 14%! As a part of the summer squash family, zucchini not only offers delightful taste and texture to many dishes, but also carries with it many health bene?ts.

How I can I avoid genetically modified foods when I go shopping for my family??

Genetically modified(GM) foods - are they safe or harmful? While regulatory authorities have approved GM food that is on the market, some people are concerned that there is risk of harm. Most foods we eat may contain ingredients derived from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). If you live in Europe, avoiding GM foods is easier since laws require labeling. In the US and Canada, however, food manufacturers are not required to label if their food is genetically modified or not.

Become familiar with the most common applications of genetic modification. And the products (and their derivatives) that are most likely to be genetically modified.

Recognize fruit and vegetable label numbers.

* If it is a 4-digit number, the food is conventionally produced.

* If it is a 5-digit number beginning with an 8, it is GM. However, do not trust that GE foods will have a PLU identifying it as such, because PLU labeling is optional.

* If it is a 5-digit number beginning with a 9, it is organic.

Grow your own food. This way you know exactly what was grown, and what went into growing it. If you are growing your own plants from seed, make sure the company has taken the "safe seed pledge

Shop locally. Although more than half of all GM foods are produced in the US and in Canada, most of it comes from large, industrial farms. Start shopping at farmers' markets, Health stores and places that support non-GMO foods.

Here are some more guidelines for steering clear of GM foods in your diet ….

The material was culled from Doreen Virtue’s best-selling book Messages from Your Angels and from her workshops. Doreen has been assigning this reading material to her Angel Therapy Practitioner™ students for many years, and at their request has compiled the information in this handy book.

Within these pages, you’ll discover your communication “style” so that you can more easily recognize the visions, words, thoughts, and feelings you receive as Divine guidance. The book is filled with charts to help you discern the difference between true Divine guidance and the voice of the ego, and it will help you engage in clear and understandable conversations with Heaven.

This book gives you advice on: how to know if messages are from your angels or just your imagination, Guardian Angels, The meaning of some of the Archangel's names, How to deepen your relationship with loved ones who have passed on, How to feel your angels, and much more.

There are even blank pages included in the book, for you to make notes on. It's just a wonderful, feel good book.

Avocado - Not a vegetable by Miscellaneous
They’re actually a fruit. Many people mistake them for vegetables, and use it as a vegetable in savoury dishes.
Cholesterol by Miscellaneous
We all need cholesterol to make our hormones, cell membranes and Vitamin D, but did you know that it is also needed to regulate the fats in your body? Keeping cholesterol working for us and not against us is important as it may reduce our risk for heart disease.
Diet drinks by Miscellaneous
Fizzy drinks have come under serious scrutiny. No wonder, because one regular can of pop contains 35 g of sugar, the equivalent of 7 teaspoons of sugar.

Feng Shui: To Live in Balance by Teresa Hwang
Traditional Chinese Feng Shui is based on the study of balance and harmony, in both an internal and external sense. When we live in harmony, there is balance between the Yin (passive) and the Yang (active) components of the energies (Qi). This combines and forms a harmonious flow of the five different elements of Qi in our environment, and also within us.

Hidden Dangers Lurking in Your Personal Care Products by Klaus Ferlow
Large corporations in the personal-care industry are interested in the promotion and profit potential of their products, not your health; they are selling an image, not necessarily a safe and effective product. There are alternatives available! Consumers can purchase toxin free natural herbal products.
Homeopathy by Katharina Riedener
Homeopathic remedies are prepared from diluted substances such as plants, minerals, or animal products, which are repeatedly diluted and succussed (vigorously shaken). As this standardized process of dilution and succussion continues, the remedy becomes more powerful.

How to Buy and Store Vegetables by Miscellaneous
It seems like every time you shell out the cash for the fresh stuff, you end up throwing much of it away. You go shopping on Saturday, and by Monday, the lettuce is wilted, the tomatoes are mealy and squishy, and the avocados, well, their buttery flesh is streaked with black.

Insta-Karma by Kerry Palframan, RN
The saying “what goes around, comes around” is indeed true and a simple law of physics and also a Universal law and principle. Listen and Trust by Wayne Dyer
IF WE’RE HONEST with ourselves, every one of us can agree that we’re acquainted with the ego part that controls and manages our lives and eagerly attempts to do the same for others. Be they family, friends, co-workers, or even strangers, ego routinely accepts the job of edging God out and taking on the role of being the master manipulator. As we move in a different direction, we realize the....
Love Your Heart by Dr. Tamara Browne
Complimentary and alternative (CAM) approaches to heart and circulatory health have proven themselves to be effective in both treating and reversing heart disease. Although often drugs and/or heart surgery are required to correct genetic defects, long-standing atherosclerosis, valve problems, heart rhythm abnormalities etc., proven natural therapies are useful in augmenting these treatments and often can prevent the need for more invasive, health harming drugs or surgery.

Why Are You So Worried? by Brian Weiss
We have so many worries. We worry about money, yet we know that money is only a tool, a means to an end. What we really want is happiness, a bit of security in our lives, some modicum of joy. Happiness, security, and joy are inner states. They are free; money cannot purchase them. Worry is merely a habit—and a negative, unpleasant habit at that. Worry will not change anything, nor will it bring you those things that you really need and desire. And money will not bring you...

Special Announcement:

This month
, OK In Health eMagazine is proud to announce registration is now open for our 2nd annual Celtic Angel Sacred Tour to Ireland with myself and AEP facilitator/Angel guide Cindy Smith. This tour is expected to fill up quickly, so if interested please book early.

“I would highly recommend this Celtic Angel tour & the people who organized it were amazing. The people on the trip are now family and it was so hard to leave. I so want to go on another one! A big thank you to Cindy and Maria and everyone who assisted us along the way. I especially liked the sheep, handing candy to the kids in the St. Patrick’s day parade, the scenery and views, Maria’s family and the bus driver was so informative and friendly. I give this tour 10 out of 10” - Theresa

"From the moment of landing until your last day your trip will be a remarkable adventure . Whether you are an seasoned traveler who usually makes all their own arrangements or a beginning world explorer you will appreciate the care and detailed arrangements that Maria makes in preparation for the trip and during your days of travel. There is so much to see in Ireland and Maria manages to squeeze in an amazing variety of engaging experiences: historic sites, sacred circles, breathtaking landscapes, cityscapes, shops, galleries, museums, pubs! Places to linger all day or evening. Food of course is important. While on the road Maria finds interesting stops for delicious and always too plentiful amounts of food. Evening group dinners will be a highlight. It is a jam packed trip. With Maria's sense of humour even
the road touring experience in the green Paddy bus is a delightful experience. Bring your wellies!" Dawn

"On our recent tour to Ireland, I was very appreciative of Maria's knowledge of the area and Cindy as an amazing teacher. We had so much fun".
