Cheesy Mushroom and Asparagus Cheese Bake

Description:
Whole-wheat Pasta is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates which provide a slow release of energy. Unlike simple sugars that offer a quick, yet fleeting boost of energy, pasta helps sustain energy. Pasta is a useful source of protein, is very low in sodium and cholesterol-free. Whole wheat pasta can provide up to 25% of daily fiber requirements in every one cup portion.Pastas are a good source of iron (with about 2mg in a 1-cup serving), potassium, and many are also enriched with thiamine, niacin, and other B vitamins. Asparagus is an alkaline food which is rich in protein but low in calories and carbohydrates. Although it's available all year round, asparagus usually is most found and best in spring and is harvested when it is about 6 to 8 inches tall. It is an excellent source of potassium, folic acid, vitamins A, C and K, and traces of vitamin B complex. A good source of dietary fiber, asparagus is also rich in niacin, phosphorus and very low sodium. And my favourite health benefit of asparagus and certainly most impressive is that it is one of those few vegetables that actually has the calcium and magnesium in the ideal ratio of 2:1.

Sandra's Raw Pad Tai

Description:
Raw food is teaming with enzymes. Enzymes are the catalyst for every human function. We are born with a battery of enzymes but as we grow and continue eating the standard North American diet, the enzymes supplied by our body are used up to help run a nutritionally starved body. They need to be replaced. This is where a raw food diet comes into play. The more raw food you eat, the more you charge your enzyme battery and the better you feel. When you put this terrific food into your digestive system it begins to clear your blood and other body fluids of toxins and soon you find that you are filled with energy and vitality and weight concerns become a thing of the past. Here is a dinner idea that you can adapt into many useful raw food dishes

Gluten-Free: Amaranth, Quinoa and Dark Chocolate Cake

Description:
Amaranth: This Central American ancient food has been cultivated for 8000 years, and is comparable to rice. Considered a grain, it is actually a seed. Amaranth is especially high in lysine, an essential amino acid most grains lack. Plus it is gluten free! Amaranth is a pseudocereal that has been consumed as a grain since ancient times; the tiny buff-colored amaranth spheres were important in both Aztec cuisine and culture. Amaranth grains are rich in high-quality protein and minerals, and are naturally gluten-free. The health benefits of Amaranth are that it is rich in Iron, Manganese, Magnesium, Potassium, and Phosphorus. It can be used ground as flour, cooked as a cereal, sprinkled on foods or even used as a thickener for soups. To cook, combine 1 part raw seeds to 2 1/2 parts liquid. Simmer 18-20 minutes, until soft. Amaranth may be toasted like pop corn and mixed with honey to make a treat called " alegria" which means "joy" in Spanish.

Question

I sometimes feel dizzy while doing some yoga stretches where the head is lower than the heart (like downward facing dog). What types of exercise should you avoid when you have low blood pressure?

Reply

The medical term for your condition is orthostatic hypotension. It typically occurs in situations like you are describing when there is a sudden change in posture, particularly so when the head rises from below the heart, but it can also happen from a supine or prone position when the head is level with the heart. The reason it happens is that circulation (blood pressure) isn't forceful enough to return adequate blood to the brain and so there is a moment of dizziness. The danger is that you can pass out, and so you need to take precautions to avoid the problem.
Any sudden postural changes during exercise when your head is below or level with your heart is a risk for orthostatic hypotension. A range of exercises could be involved: bench press, sit-ups, bent-over rows, reverse flies, aerobic dance, yoga poses like you report, and step classes where there is forward bending are all examples. I've also seen orthostatic hypotension occur during lunges or squats, even though the head is not below the heart, and it can happen if you stop and stand still immediately after cardio exercises like the treadmill or an Elliptical machine because blood pools in the legs (your heart needs the contraction of the leg muscles to assist it in pumping blood back to the head after standing cardio exercises, thus the reason for an active cool down ).
You need to change posture slowly during the head-raising portion of any exercise and cool down gradually after aerobic exercise if the problem is chronic for you. Most people accommodate to the problem, but sometimes you can forget to take precautions, and in other cases, it happens no matter what you do. The prudent thing to do if it occurs is to sit down until it passes. You should also speak with your doctor if it continues. Sometimes doctors will recommend an increase in sodium, and some people on hypertension medicines will need to have their dose reduced (this is particularly so during weight loss).
Take care, and thank you for your question.

Sacred Messages from Sacred Ireland - Jane Donald

A story of Jane Donald's personal experience from illness to recovery through the discovery and use of one's own energy and inner healing power. Follow the path where it lead into nature and Sacred sites in Ireland. The gift of inspirational channeled messages illustrated by beautiful photography. Insightful messages allowing people to connect to their inner power and appreciate their own lifeforce that courses through their physical bodies and which unites them with every other living consciousness in the Universe. Helping people to understand that the Universe is vibrational and all is energy, love and light, a part of eternity, part of timelessness.

About the author:

Jane channels messages from the Lifeforce through Green Man energy. It is for mankind to be aware of the power of love. Love is the answer, love is the power to heal the world - fear is the enemy - allow yourself to be in your heart, allow yourself to be, concentrate on being, concentrate on allowing yourself to be all that you can be, all that you are, allow yourself to be the power of love in the world - shine that light of love in all areas of your life and everything you do will flourish and be blessed. Love is the basis of all life, love is the force that flows through us all and breathes life from our soul and shines through our eyes. Love is the beauty of our soul, the song of our heart and the beating of our heart. Love is the part of us that flows through all we do, say and think - that is what we want to know - that is what we want to be all our lives - that is what we want to feel all our lives. Love is the most powerful force in all the world - the most accessible power to us all when we open our hearts to our true potential and to our true purpose in life.

The Green Man is an Ascended Master who are great spiritual teachers, healers, powerful guides who can help in all aspects of your life. The Green Man is the face of nature and an ancient fertility deity who helps crops to grow, he represents the healing effects of nature. Call on the Green Man to help increase your connection to nature or to help in your garden or farm. Especially for people whose purpose involves the environment, nature, flower essences, crystals, plant spirit medicine or other natural healing methods. Often represented in paintings and cravings in ancient churches in western Europe and India and popularly associated with the Hill of Tara in Co Meath, Ireland.

Why and how Jane became a healer

Following a collapse in 2000 at the age of 26 with M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), (or Post Viral Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) and subsequent years of chronic exhaustion and debilitating illness that Jane began to explore her sensitivity to energy and holistic health therapies to aid in the recovery of her health, energy and wellbeing.

The OK-anagan Gathering!

For the third month in a row The OK-anagan Gathering was held at the Shatford Center celebrating OK In Health eMagazine’s 10th year in service. The turn out filled the room. This months theme was The Sacred You and Spring Equinox. Volunteers created an atmosphere of comfort, Love and Light. The center piece was dedicated to Divine Masculine, Divine Feminine and the Spring Equinox. Mahada Thomas set the tone for the evening with voice, guiding all to join in. The sounds were in pure harmony as the voices blended together as one.

Our speakers were respected practitioners from our community. Terisa Adam spoke on MIND, Dylan Smeaton on BODY and Denise Miller on SPIRIT. Discussion followed with insight and co-operation, people looking for language that brought concepts into a common understanding.

We ended the evening with Bean-A-Ti , that is a cup of tea and visiting. It was hard to leave as the community warmth was felt by all.

The topic for April 17th is Passing on Y-OUR Sacred Gift. Join us next month, in Sacred Community to learn, live and laugh together!

Horoscope for April 2014

Tip of the Month:

Spring officially began on March 20th this year but it is the New Moon in Aries that really launches the season. It occurred on March 30 at 11:45 am PDT. What is of added significance is both the Sun and Moon were also closely conjunct Uranus. This indicates what can be described as an unpredictable explosive charge, no foolin....

Uranus says ‘expect the unexpected’. It can be compared to the joker, yes in the playing cards, but like the one in Batman too. Not surprisingly, Uranus is symbolized by the Fool in the Tarot. 0 is the number for this card and the history of both 0 and the Tarot are full of mystery, intrigue and twists and turns.

In addition to Uranus spliced into this New Moon Seed, all three are in a tight and charged aspect to Jupiter and Pluto. Venus forming a contentious angle to Saturn meanwhile adds a sobering weight to the plot. Altogether this will prove to trigger some very dynamic, assertive and...

"When I moved to the beautiful sunny Okanagan 4 years ago I was looking for a change in my wellness journey. I came across the OK In health eMagazine when searching the web for holistic events and practitioners. I found the site to be very informative, positive and easy to navigate. The layout of the site guides and connects me to all my holistic needs. The topics on holistic healing and practitioners is variable and meets the needs of all. It covers a multitude of various kinds of healings, healing practitioners, community and world events, healthy food recipes, families, animals and plants. I love how OK In Health is non-biased, and it offers me free will to explore my own personal wants and needs in the privacy of my own home. I feel Maria of OK In Health has captured a way for the Okanagan community to explore one another while providing the highest of good intentions for both the consumer and the practitioner. Maria has been a great support to me in wellness. Her heartfelt attitude and crystal twinkle in her eyes radiates far beyond her captivating smile."

Reiki Blessings, RK
