What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and ears, which correspond to every part, gland and organ of the body. Through applications of medium pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation, and helps promote the natural function of related areas of the body. Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat specific conditions. Reflexology has been practiced in India, Egypt and China for over 5,000 years and continues to be widely used throughout the world today as a safe, effective and beneficial therapy. Essentially, Reflexology helps to balance the physical, mental and emotional aspects of your whole body.

What is Cranio-Sacral Reflexology?

One Year Postgraduate Diploma in Cranio-Sacral Reflexology International
This is a Certification Course ( MCSRI). This is an advance course for certified cranio sacral, osteopaths, nurses, or reflexologists.
Cranio sacral is the name given to the approach to osteopathy developed by Dr Sutherland 100 years ago. He saw how the bone structure of the skull permitted slight motion and noted that restriction of normal motion due to injury, trauma or disease could affect health. The cranial osteopath works gently with the bones in the skull and associated bodily systems to remedy such conditions. The Reflexologist can achieve the same result by combining an understanding of cranio-sacral therapy with conventional reflexology, since the bones of the feet reflect the skull and sacrum exactly.
The body’s inner health is perceived through a gentle pulse called the CSRI. It arises at the core of the body within the brain and spinal cord and the fluid, which surrounds them. It is a tide-like rhythm, which expresses itself throughout all of the body. Areas of congestion and restriction in function of any part of the body can be felt as an imbalance in its motion and treated.
A reflexologist has a highly developed sense of palpation and is trained to detect and assess the dynamic state of the body tissues;’ Both within the feet and the rest of the body. By using the gentle techniques of Cranio-Sacral Reflexology” the practitioner is able to release the strain patterns found and support the body in its attempt to return to an ideal state of balance and function for healing to progress.
Cranio-Sacral Reflexology is suitable for everyone, from newborn babies to the elderly including those with fragile and acute medical conditions as: Adult General Trauma and Conditions, - Sinusitis, Stress related illness, Jaw disorders, Bronchitis and Asthma, Insomnia, Depression, Migraine, Tinnitus, Back, shoulder and neck pain, Whiplash, and sports injuries. The Benefits of Reflexology

Nervous System
• responds by a slowing of nerve velocity - thereby calming the whole body
• pain pathways are interrupted - reducing pain
• reflexology stimulates the production of encephalins and endorphins - inducing a sense of euphoria and helping with pain relief.

Circulatory System
• improved circulation thereby increasing nutrition to the cells and promoting the removal of waste products (www.reflexology-research.com/kidney)

Lymphatic System
• reduction in tissue swelling, improved immunity and a reduced risk of infection

Energy Systems
• balanced energy flow in the meridians - leading to a general sense of wellbeing.

The Relaxation Response
Reflexology is extremely relaxing. As 75-80% of disease is said to be caused by stress and tension, this is a very powerful and important effect.

The Effect of Touch
Caring, nurturing touch is something we all crave. The healing power of touch has been well documented over the ages. Touch applied via the feet and hands is particularly well received as it is non-invasive and requires the recipient to remove only their shoes and socks.

Area Where Reflexology can be Particularly Useful:

Stress management
Reflexology reduces nervous tension and calms overactive adrenal glands. Danish studies have reported that recipients feel a much greater sense of wellbeing and cope better with stress.

Chronic illness
Reflexology reduces pain, promotes the elimination of toxins and helps activate and balance all body systems.

Corporate area
In Denmark particularly, reflexology has been used extensively in corporations as part of their human resource management. Employers report fewer employee absences, and noticeably improved of their staff.

The Elderly
Reflexology is used more and more in nursing homes with excellent results eg: pain relief, calming of agitated patients, improved bowel function etc.

Children
Teething problems, bed-wetting, colic, constipation, and restlessness are just a few typical problems which respond well to reflexology.

Foot problems
Reflexology reduces oedema, alleviates foot pain, and improves mobility of the foot and ankle.

Pregnancy and Birth
Reflexology is used by many midwives and is a wonderful way to support a woman through pregnancy and labour.

Wellness Tip
Clean Hands Keep the Doctor Away
Did you know that washing your hands is the most effective way to stop the spread of illness? Washing hands properly and thoroughly is very important. An effective hand washing technique is to wet your hands with warm water; soap and scrub for 20 seconds-it helps to sing Happy Birthday (under your breath) twice; rinse under clean running water; and dry completely using a clean paper towel or cloth.

Recipe
Carob Chip Protein Cookies
Category: Desserts
Description: This recipe is so simple to make. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl with your hands, form into balls, and place on a cookie sheet and in 8 minutes you have some healthy cookies to eat or for kids lunches.
What Are the Benefits of Carob Chips?

Many people enjoy chocolate chip cookies or other desserts containing chocolate chips, but using carob chips instead offers a variety of benefits. While you will not get chocolate flavor from carob chips, they do impart a sweet taste -- allowing you to satisfy your sweet tooth while getting more nutritional value and less cholesterol. Carob provides fiber and your body needs 25 to 38 g of fiber each day to keep your bowels and digestion functioning at an optimal level. Consume a 2-tbsp. serving of carob chips, and you take in 2 g of fiber. This may not seem like much; however, in comparison to 2 tbsp. of chocolate chips, which contains no fiber, it is a good option for adding fiber to your diet. If you use carob chips in baked goods, you can increase your fiber by choosing whole grain flours and high-fiber nuts for your recipe. it also has no Cholesterol. Your physician may warn you off foods such as baked goods in an effort to decrease your cholesterol intake if you have high blood cholesterol levels. Too much cholesterol in your blood may build up and block blood flow, increasing your risk of a heart attack. Limit your consumption to 300 mg per day. You can slightly lower the amount of cholesterol in the foods you make by opting to use carob chips -- a serving of this sweet chip contains no cholesterol. If you use regular chocolate chips, you take in 3.5 mg of cholesterol per 2-tbsp. serving. It also decreases your caffeine Intake. Chocolate chips naturally contain 18 mg of caffeine per 2-tbsp. serving, far less than a cup of coffee ; however, if you are a person with caffeine sensitivities, carob chips are a smarter choice as they contain no caffeine. Carob chips are a good choice to supplement your calcium intake. A 2-tbsp. serving of this food provides you with 2 percent of the daily recommended intake of calcium if you adhere to a 2,000 calorie diet. The calcium you get from carob chips promotes bone strength and density. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, calcium may also ease symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and play a role in lowering your risk of hypertension.
