Why Feed a Raw Diet? Five years ago a holistic vet suggested we put our 13 year old chocolate lab on a raw diet because he was having problems with his hips. The improvement was remarkable and Buddy enjoyed his remaining time with us pain free. He was three months short of his 15th birthday when he passed on. I had never heard of a raw diet for pets also referred to as BARF diet (biologically appropriate raw food). We have our two senior dogs on the raw diet and both act like pups. I strongly feel that the raw diet is giving them a better quality of life. Our vet bills are non-existent. A raw diet for dogs provides raw animal based protein sources including bone along with vegetables and fruit. By providing the food in the raw form the nutrients are more available and are more easily absorbed. Benefits include an improvement in the condition of their coats, increased energy, cleaner teeth, fresher breath and better overall health. Feeding raw you are also aware of what is and what is not in the food. A raw diet contains no grains, preservatives, fillers, dyes or rendered material. We supplement with kelp and an essential fatty oil. It provides peace of mind for those wanting to feed a healthy . My experience with feeding raw has been with dogs but cats love it also. I have been told that litter box odor is virtually eliminated when the cats are fed raw. That alone would be an incentive to try a raw diet with your feline friend. Do your research!!! Just goggle Barf Diet and you have excess to numerous websites dedicated to raw feeding. Written by Darlene Luhowy |
