Life Coaching - November 2011

By Sue Chambers, Williams Lake, BC, Williams Lake, BC

next step toward a happier life

When we feel stuck in our lives we feel frustrated, angry, powerless, fearful and unhappy. We don't always know how to move past the obstacles that are holding us back.

We ask:

Does life have to be so hard?

Why am I so afraid to make changes?

Can I be happy in my relationships?

Do I have to live a limited life financially?

How can I lose weight and focus on becoming healthier?

Should I change jobs?

What are the emotions that are holding me back from moving forward?

What is stopping me from finding out?

Answering the hard questions is not as difficult as it seems. Do we have to stay confused and unhappy or can we make changes that will move our lives in different directions? The answer is yes!

Each of us has the courage inside to make the changes we need and have a happy, fulfilled life. We all want the same things. To love and be loved, to feel secure and happy, to be healthy, to move forward and have an exciting, fulfilled life. This is where Life Coaching comes in.

Life Coaching is a new, relaxed way of helping us look at things from a different perspective. Allowing us to answer the hard questions and find out what is holding us back from the life we want. It is a one on one relationship to determine goals, set time frames to achieve them and show what has been stopping us from being successful.

Coaching makes us accountable to ourselves and to our lives. Much of life coaching is done over the phone, which makes it comfortable and convenient for the client. One less appointment to go to!

A session can vary in time and be as often as you need. Life coaches are not psychologists, nor consultants. Specifically, coaches are strategists, realists, innovative partners and strategic thinkers - Solutions vs. Problems. Usually, once a person is trained in life coaching and becomes certified, they continue to work on their training, including touching base periodically with a master coach or mentor to help them stay on top of any new techniques that may help in their coaching practice.

Coaching can help to discover, embrace and develop the best part of us. The part that has no limits in life, allowing us to feel connected to ourselves and no longer experience any lack in our lives. When we are empowered by ourselves, we can be, do and have anything! Sometimes it just takes a little help discovering where that empowerment is hiding and breaking down the barriers. Finding a coach is as simple as going online and searching for a website.

Wellness Tip
The Ideal Amount of Weight to Lift
To be effective, weight lifting should become difficult as you reach the last few repetitions of each set. According to fitness experts, to build strength, lift a weight that tires your muscles after 8-12 repetitions. This is normally an ideal amount of weight for you to work with.

We were filming a web segment to raise awareness of the Gulf’s importance and the risks associated with oil and gas drilling. The natural beauty there so inspired me that I...
